I am so sorry for the extended posting hiatus here and at my other two blogs, Geek of all Trades and Sounds Like Power. The past half-year or so has been trying for me, with lots of soul-searching and thinking and introspection. I had to let something go, to have the energy for all that, and it was the blogs that suffered. For you, Filmi Geek readers, that meant I wasn't watching as many Hindi movies, and I wasn't writing about the ones that I did watch.
The good news is that I have decided to say goodbye to my career as a patent attorney, and in a little over a month I will be starting a new career and a new job as a technical writer.
I don't know exactly what the future holds, but I miss Hindi films and I miss blogging and I will definitely be back. So please stay tuned for postings soon, as I turn the page on my professional life and, with any luck, get back some of the energy I used to spend here thinking and writing and communicating with all you folks out there.
Thanks for reading, and I'm looking forward to getting back in touch with all of you.
Hi Carla
Welcome back. Goodluck in your new career and here is hoping you will have free time to do all the fun things you like to do.

Congratulations on the new career, Carla. It seems ilke a perfect fit, given your obvious geek cred and real talent at writing. I am delighted that you had the good sense to set sensible priorities for your time and energies, and wish you well in whatever lies ahead.

Finally, a new post on Filmi Geek shows up on my reader. Great! Interestingly, I'm currently in tech and mulling a move to a legal career - thinking of going to law school. If you can, please write about why you decided to make the move out of law because it'd be very helpful. What prompted it? How is life as a lawyer?

All the best for this new phase of your Carla- good luck!

Thanks for the good wishes everyone.
Maajhi, there were lots of things I liked about being a patent attorney. I have worked in a wide variety of technology areas and there is always something new to learn, which is great fun. But as I have gotten more senior as an attorney the pressures on me have started to change. I find that the incentives in a world driven by the billable hour are all wrong. Some people thrive in this environment, but I have been coming to believe that it's wrong for me.
I am hopeful that in technical writing I will be able to continue to focus on the things I liked best about patent law - understanding technology and translating it into the written word.

I wish you all the best, Carla. Deciding on a change of career must be even more difficult than thinking about a change of school (for my son). Sinking in a sea of introspection, after a while you just want to get out and get on, with anything. I look forward to the time you are ready to post again. Best wishes.

Writing is just what you SHOULD do, you are so good at it!!! Hopefully writing all day for work will not make you less willing to write here for fun, though!
See you soon :)

Wecome back Carla, thanks for the little note concerning your readers! Hope you do find your true calling in that new job... We hear so much about lay-offs these days in the US that I should say you're lucky!

Hi Carla,
I recently discovered your filmigeek blog and have thoroughly enjoyed going through your reviews and reliving old memories. I haven't posted before this, but I wanted to tell you that I too made the decision to give up the law some years ago, and for pretty much the same reason - it was wrong for me. It was the best career decision I ever made. The money is a lot less now, but I wake up feeling happy, young, and creative again.
Good luck in all your future endeavors (hint: you're a great writer)!
