What's going on?  No reviews in more than a week! 

It's tragic, but sometimes I can't quite make the time to watch Hindi movies.  I posted my last review about eight days ago but it's been more than two weeks since I've watched a film.

Monday is a holiday here in the US, so I've got a long weekend and that usually means I'll get to watch some movies.  I already have plans for two.  So with any luck, next week the reviews will start coming again (there's always a delay of a couple of days between watching and having a review is ready for posting). 

I don't always like to say what's coming because plans change, but I'm expecting the next handful of reviews to include Satyam shivam sundaram, Teesri manzil, and Munnabhai MBBS.  We shall see.

माझी जी, माफ़ कीजिए, मैं "चक दे इंडिया" देखने सिनेमा नहीं जा पाई । सब लोग केहते हैं कि बहुत अच्छी फ़िल्म है - विश्वास है कि किसी दिन मैं देखूँगी ।

कार्लाजी, अगर देखनी हो तो थियेटर में ही देखिये जनता के साथ - इस फ़िल्म का मज़ा बड़े पर्दे पर जनता के साथ देखने में ज़्यादा है

मैं आपके आनेवाले रीव्यूज़ का बेसब्री से इन्तज़ार कर रहा हूँ - तीसरी मंज़िल और मुन्नाभाई दोनों मुझे बेहद पसंद हैं. सत्यम् शिवम् सुन्दरम् का मुझे सिर्फ़ गाना याद है, ज़ीनत अमान अभिनेत्री है ये याद है, मगर कहानी बिल्कुल याद नहीं - कई सालों पहले देखी थी टीवी पर..

बहुत शुक्रिया माझी जी - मैं दोस्तों के साथ "चक दे इंडिया" देखूँगी ।

आनेवाले रीव्यूज़ को लेकर - पीछले वीक-ऐंड मैंने सारी तीन फ़िल्में देखीं - और मनी रतनम की "बम्बई" भी ! रीव्यूज़ तो आनेवाले हैं लेकिन मुझे बहुत लिखना है । सब फ़िल्में मुझे पसंद थीं - लेकिन "बम्बई" सबसे अच्छी लगी । इस के खत्म को मैं रो पड़ी ...

हाँ, मनी रत्नम का मैं भी बहुत बड़ा चहेता हूँ. अगर आपको बॉम्बे अच्छी लगी तो 'दिल से', 'हे राम' और 'रोजा' ज़रूर देखिये. रोजा मुझे ठीक से याद नहीं है मगर दिल से और हे राम दोनो आपको १००% अच्छी लगेंगी. मुझे तो युवा और तमिल फ़िल्म - कण्णतिल मुत्तमिट्टाळ (A Peck on the cheek) भी अच्छी लगी थी मगर मैं ने देखा है कि ये दो फ़िल्में सब के लिये नहीं हैं. बम्बई को लेकर मेरी काफ़ी सारी पर्सनल यादें जुड़ी हैं क्योंकि जब ये सब हुआ था मैं मुंबई में ही रहता था. बम्बई के गानों में से मुझे कहना ही क्या याद है.. ठीक से याद नहीं लेकिन इस फ़िल्म के और भी गाने मुझे पसंद थे. इन तीनों फ़िल्मों पर आपके विचार मैं पढ़ने के लिये अब बचैन हूँ - आप वाकई काफ़ी अच्छी लिखती हैं.

I've found that Mani Ratnam has lost his touch these days though - his Guru was a huge disappointment. And most of his newer movies seem to have a very arresting premise but go nowhere by the time the end rolls around - Yuva was one such, though I still enjoyed it. Look forward to your review. Bombay can put you through quite an emotional wringer if you aren't used to such situations - for me, I actually lived through what's depicted, but it was still courageous of him to make such a good movie out of it.

Thanks for the comments, Maajhi. I can't imagine what it is like to live through riots in your own city like those depicted in *Bombay* - the closest thing in my own experience is that I was living in downtown New York in September of 2001, and that's similar in some ways and completely different in others. I've posted about *Bombay* now but I don't think I did it justice.
